Free Mental Health Supports for Black Youth
Free Mental Health Supports for Black Youth
As part of Ontario Health’s Paediatric Recovery Initiative, the Jane/Finch Centre is offering free mental health supports tailored to Black youth. These services are designed to provide safe, culturally responsive spaces for counselling, access to resources, and overall well-being. Youth can be referred through hospitals, schools, or directly from the community.

Mintikah offers compassionate support, helping young people navigate challenges while fostering trust, resilience, and empowerment. She provides counselling, guidance, and system navigation to strengthen mental health and overall well-being.
Alongside her counselling role, Mintikah is co-leading programs under the name You(Th)rive, in collaboration with The Spot team and the Community Wellbeing team.

You(Th)rive engages Black youth ages 10–25 through three age-based circles:
Ages 10–13: Foundation & Fun
Ages 14–18: Self-Expression, Authenticity & Identity
Ages 19–25: Self-Discovery, Independence & Life Transitions

Free Drop In Services - EarlyON X Surrey PLace
Free Drop In Services - EarlyON x Surrey Place
EarlyON and Surrey Place are offering free drop-ins for parents and caregivers interested in learning more about their child’s development, behaviour, and motor skills. Parents and caregivers with children from birth to 6 years of age can drop in to meet with a Behaviour Analyst, Occupational Therapist, or Developmental Consultant.

Together We Grow: Newcomer Connection Program!
This program is designed for newcomers, offering an opportunity to engage in discussions on self-care, mental health, and financial planning. Participants can also share their personal experiences and exchange practical skills such as sewing, crochet, cooking, and more.

Jane Finch Student Orientation
The York University TD Community Engagement Centre, in partnership with the Jane/Finch Centre, invites post-secondary placement students to a free orientation. This in-person session will introduce students to the Jane Finch community through a historical overview, discussions on systemic issues and stigma, and insights into grassroots organizing. Students will also learn about placement expectations, opportunities for growth, and have the chance to connect with peers.

Parent-Child Mother Goose Program with EarlyON
The Parent-Child Mother Goose Program is running two new programs in partnership with the EarlyON Centre at the Jane Finch Mall this September for families with young children (ages 0–2 and 2–4).
Beginning Tuesday, September 23, we invite parents and caregivers to join us for a free, welcoming program where they can:
Learn and share rhymes, songs, and stories with their children
Support their child’s growth while strengthening family bonds
Connect with other parents in a warm and supportive community
This program is culturally responsive, accessible to all families, and designed to provide a sense of connection and belonging—especially for those who may feel isolated.

Jane/Finch Live’ 25 | 3V3 Basketball Tournament
4th Annual 3V3 Basketball Tournament
Hosted annually by The Spot Youth Centre, the Jane/Finch Live 25’ Basketball Tournament is back! Supported by the MLSE Foundation and Dairy Farmers of Ontario, this tournament brings together youth from across the neighbourhood for a full day of friendly competition, featuring both men’s and women’s divisions.
This tournament invites youth to form teams with at least three members to compete for prizes.

Pedalheads Bike Camps is offering a completely free summer camp for kids ages 5-8 years old in the Jane and Finch community.
Pedalheads is a learn-to-ride bike camp known for taking kids from training wheels to two wheels.

Reading Partnerships for Parents
This program is a new virtual program in partnership with the Toronto Reading Partnership (TRP) designed to help caregivers support their children's literacy skills. Led by TRP staff, sessions will be delivered online via Zoom, providing valuable strategies and resources to foster early reading development.
