Communities across the Caribbean, including Jamaica, have faced the catastrophic impacts of the recent hurricane.

Communities across the Caribbean, including Jamaica, have faced the catastrophic impacts of the recent hurricane, which has destroyed homes, disrupted livelihoods and displaced thousands.

We recognize that natural disasters do not affect all communities equally. Both globally and locally, Black, Indigenous, Caribbean, and low-income communities continue to bear a disproportionate share of climate-related harm due to longstanding structural inequities.

Jane–Finch is home to many residents with deep transnational ties to Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. We acknowledge the emotional and economic strain this disaster is placing on community members and stand in solidarity with all those affected.

The Jamaican Canadian Association is currently collecting donations to support relief and recovery efforts. We encourage those who are able to visit their website to learn more or contribute: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/138028
