Supporting Immigrant and Migrant Communities in our Neighbourhood and Beyond

As an organization rooted in Jane-Finch and Black Creek, we work alongside residents of many backgrounds, identities and immigration experiences. We remain committed to ensuring that the Jane/Finch Centre continues to be a welcoming, supportive and inclusive space for all who come through our doors.

We are concerned about what many immigrant and migrant communities are facing, both in Canada and elsewhere. Recent events reflect ongoing patterns of criminalization, racialized harm, state-based violence and exclusion, that are not unfamiliar to communities here at home.

When left unchallenged, rising anti-immigrant sentiment toward racialized newcomers creates hostile and, in many cases, dangerous conditions for people in their settlement journey.

For many people in our neighbourhoods, global events are not abstract. Family ties and shared experiences across borders, and the impacts of fear and instability are often felt locally, shaping people’s sense of safety, belonging and trust.

We believe in the dignity and rights of all people, including the right to due process, safety and freedom from intimidation. We also recognize the importance of peaceful expression and collective action as essential to a healthy and democratic society.

Our commitment remains the same: to stand with our community, to offer care and support without judgment and to continue advocating for systems that prioritize safety, fairness and equity for all.
