International Women’s Day (IWD)

Today is International Women's Day (IWD). The Jane/Finch Centre recognizes the incredible and resilient women who are the backbone of our community and agency. Their dedication, visionary leadership and diverse talents are essential to our work, contributing to the health and well-being of our neighbourhood.

The focus of this year’s IWD is on inspiring inclusion. In Toronto, pay equity disparities persist, with women, especially those from marginalized communities, facing additional barriers. Recent statistics show that women working in the City of Toronto, on average, earn just over 78 cents for every dollar a man makes. This gap also intersects with racial disparities, exacerbating the inequalities faced by Black and Indigenous women, other racialized women and gender diverse folks. At the Jane/Finch Centre, we are committed to advocating for policies and practices that support gender equity in all aspects. As we acknowledge IWD today, we are reminded of Maya Angelou's words: None of us are free until all of us are.
