ISAP Program Worker
Contract – Immediate to March 31, 2010 (With Possibility of Renewal) – Part-Time 21 hours

Accountability: The Program Worker is responsible to Team Leader – HOST and ISAP.
 
Position Summary:  The ISAP Program Worker will implement newcomer settlement and adaptation services for youth in Jane and Finch, meeting ISAP criteria.
 
Specific Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intake interviews to assess client’s presenting and underlying needs and issues.
  • Provide case management services to newcomers.
  • Make appropriate referrals, both internally and externally.
  • Provide direct services such as form filling, translation and interpretation and follow-up as needed.
  • Plan, organize and conduct regular workshops for newcomer youth to familiarize them about various aspects of the Canadian society.
  • Maintain accurate intake/casework and group work recording, monthly statistical records and reports as required by ISAP.
  • Other duties as required. 

Qualifications:

  • Relevant education in Community Development or equivalent. Demonstrated experience utilizing community development principles and practices required.
  • Knowledge of and experience with current approaches to community capacity and social engagement.
  • Strong advocacy, communication and listening skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources and issues faced by families living in the area.
  • Experience with leadership training and engagement.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and experience working with a diversity of communities/cultures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work appropriately and sensitively with confidential information.
  • Strong planning, time management, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English, verbally and in writing.
  • Verbal and written fluency in a second language as represented by ISAP/HOST eligible newcomer youth communities in Jane and Finch. Priority communities include: Spanish, Karen, South Asian and Chinese.
  • Ability to create and maintain program management systems, reports and statistical information.
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Explorer).
  • Excellent problem solving and crisis management skills.
  • A proven understanding and knowledge of issues facing newcomer youth such as diversity, adaptation, employment, family stressors, social integration, substance abuse, racism and harassment.
  • Familiar in casework process, including intake procedures, referrals, case management and follow-ups, particularly within a settlement context, ISAP preferable.
  • Proven commitment to organizational principles of anti-discrimination, anti-oppression, poverty and community development.
  • Ability to work both independently and co-operatively as a member of the Jane/Finch Community and Family Centre team, and fulfill policy and procedure requirements of the organization.
  • Ability to work regular evening and weekend hours.

 
Salary: $23.85/hr

ISAP Peer Youth Worker (7 hours per week/each)
Contract – Immediate to March 31, 2010 (With Possibility of Renewal)

Accountability: The ISAP Peer Youth Workers are responsible to Team Leader – HOST and ISAP Project.
 
Position Summary:  The Peer Youth Workers will conduct outreach and program support to link ISAP eligible youth in Jane and Finch to this new resource.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Help plan and facilitate settlement services for newcomer youth in Jane and Finch.
  • Conduct and support outreach activities in various community locations including schools, The Spot, Parks and Recreation facilities, malls and other popular locations where youth congregate.
  • Work, in partnership, with the ISAP/HOST team, Jane/Finch Community and Family Centre and other local organizations and groups.
  • Work with the ISAP Program Worker in the planning and implementation accessible ISAP activities.

Qualifications:

  • Dependable and responsible.
  • Creativity, initiative and a sense of humor.
  • Training in peer mentorship is an asset.
  • Leadership and group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work well with a diversity of youth.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with a diverse, multi-cultural community.
  • Proven commitment to organizational principles of anti-discrimination, anti-oppression and community development.
  • Suitable experience and/or training.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, verbally and in writing.
  • Verbal and written fluency in Karen or another language as represented by ISAP/HOST eligible newcomer youth communities in Jane and Finch. Priority communities include: Spanish, South Asian and Chinese.
  • Ability to create and/or maintain program reports and statistical information.

Salary: $12.67
